The ISSUE: The habitat on which many natural communities depend is being seriously impacted by human development. These disturbances in the organisms habitat result in the extinction of, or threat to the continue existence of, many plant and animal species. Many species have very restricted habitats on which they depend, and can not simply be moved to another area. Continued development of human communities will depend on our protection of the genetic diversity on the planet; we can not continue to survive on a planet which we have made devoid of other species with which we do not yet appreciate and understand our relationship.Debate 1:
Team A: A Society of Genetic Engineers (which will profit from the genetic diversity on the planet)
Team B: Real-estate Developers in the human communities associated with the threatened natural habitats
Team C: A local chapter of Save the Natural Habitat of Endangered Species
Team D: The Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce
Debate 2:
Team A: Local residents living adjacent to the natural habitat being rezoned for development
Team B: A Local high school chapter of the "Greenso/oo
Team C: Corporate and Business interest who would like to see a local airport expanded, and favor the rezoning of the natural areas for use as an additional run-way and noise abatement buffer zone
Team D: A Greater Metropolitan Area Real-estate Developers Association
