The converged drainage system continues down stream towards the Pacific Ocean, 52 miles away. Concrete channel like this is what most people think of when they think of the Los Angeles river. This design moves winter storm waters as quickly as possible to the San Pedro Harbor. Winter floods can move at 25-35 m.p.h. down this channel, making it very difficult for victims to climb out.
