Indian Paintbrush




This is Indian Paintbrush. It is a member of the Figwort family also known as Scrophularicaeae. Its scientific name is Castilleja affinis. It provides perrenial cover with its soft short hairs. Its stems grow from 12-20 inches high. They are purplish and more or less woody at the base. Its leaves are not serrated and are palmately divided into 3 to 5 lobes. Its flower has scarlet tips. It grows in grassy areas and among other shrubs.
