BACKGROUND

Teachers need to be familiar with basic bird anatomy, bird feeding habits, differentanimal life cycles and bird activities to begin their investigation. Teachers need to lookat various bird feeders to teach their students how to make them. They should also knowthe basics of binocular use. Teachers should be familiar with campus flora. They also needto be familiar with the different types of birds that are native to their local campus andenvironmental habitat. In addition, teachers should research what birds eat and how theyhave adapted to survive.

Teachers can use the Internet to go beyond the classroom walls and give students theability to gather reliable data and post their own work for publication.  CornelUniversity offers information and magazines for Project Bird Watch on their site and theNational Audubon Society is an infinite resource for information about birds and theirhabitats.  See Tips for Teachers for more web site information.
