San Fernando Valley School Readiness Initiative
Parents who become active participants in their children’s learning at home become advocates for their children in formal educational settings.
Community residents in the Sylmar and Pacoima neighborhoods of the San Fernando Valley are trained to be home visitors who provide school readiness services in homes and schools.
Home visitors assist children, from birth to five years, and their parents in a yearlong program to improve children’s developmental, pre-academic and social skills before they enter kindergarten. By participating in this program, parents also learn different ways to achieve academic success at home, which increases their involvement in their children’s schools.
