Transform Schools Services
LAEP can build the capacity of a school to implement any of the following services for a fee
College & Career Pathways – LAEP builds the capacity of communities to support students to enroll and succeed in college and to be workforce ready. We support teachers in implementing high quality, embedded curriculum that prepares students for lifelong success. We build trust through conversations with parents and families by creating transparency and opportunities to advocate for their children’s future. We proudly partner with the Americorps Volunteers In Service to America (VISTA) program to align resources and community partners with the classroom to provide the real-world relevance and knowledge necessary to accomplish students’ personal and academic pursuits.
Community Schools – The Community Schools strategy leverages a community’s assets for the success of all students by aligning resources that support health and well-being, intervention and enrichment, youth development, college & career readiness, and campus culture. The Community School coordinator facilitates joint planning, collaboration and communication between schools, students, families, service agencies, and government offices. We can place a trained Coordinator on your campus to identify and maximize school partnerships as well as build the capacity of students and parents, through youth development activities and parent leadership. LAEP can work with school districts or schools to design authentic engagement strategies and structures to implement LCFF.
Professional Learning Networks – LAEP facilitates a variety of ad hoc and ongoing networks teachers and school leaders can join to support collegial exchange of best practices. Typically, participants from multiple campuses meet regularly at LAEP in the evening to discuss strategies and challenges, and to collaboratively develop and assess resources and tools in their work. Networks range from supporting Common Core math lesson development to college access strategies and Pilot school leadership.
School-based Health Integration – LAEP builds strategies that connect student need with service providers including identifying gaps in the system and in services. We maximize the engagement of health providers so they can build peer health strategies such as peer health mentors and campaigns around health issues, and help integrate health as a career strategy where appropriate.
School Transformation – LAEP draws upon its 30-years of experience in school transformation to support comprehensive school change. Based upon the six core elements we have identified for successful schools, we cultivate high-quality instruction, teacher leadership and collaboration, college-and-career readiness, parents as partners, youth empowerment and educational equity through strategies in which we have expertise. We provide professional development to build strong collaborative and caring work cultures and results-oriented faculties. We build capacity in school leadership, educators, parents and students through coaching and mentoring in order to expand the school’s ability to promote student success and sustainability.
Student-led Conferencing – Students lead parent-teacher conferences encouraging students to take more responsibility for their academic achievement, self-discipline, and physical well-being, as well as a valuable resource for parent engagement. LAEP provides training and support in preparing both students and teachers for the conference and making it a valuable educational tool for both.
Youth Leadership & Peer Mediation – LAEP fosters development of youth leadership activities such as peer mentoring and mediation to build skills and knowledge in young people and to develop the capacity of schools to produce college-and-career ready graduates. Creating visible student leaders across the campus is a critical strategy towards eliminating low expectations and fosters learning. LAEP can provide training and support in development of effective youth leadership activities.
