Teachers' Centers
An integral part of the Humanitas experience is the team training which takes place at the following two Humanitas Teachers' Centers. At these school sites, visiting teams of teachers focus on:
  • Criteria for quality interdisciplinary themes that engage students in learning
  • Discussion strategies that improve learning and encourage critical thinking in students
  • Criteria for essay questions to acess learning and methods for teaching writing skills
  • Criteria for materials selection and how not to rely on textbooks
  • Methods for ensuring excellence and equity in instruction of students
  • Strategies for effective team planning
  • Literacy Strategies to promote independent reading improvement.

Cleveland High School Humanities Magnet, San Fernando Valley

Teams at Cleveland include 9th - 12th grade level instruction. This Center offers a conceptual approach to all areas of study, which include Non-Western Humanities, Western Humanities, U.S. Studies, and Modern Issues. Special instruction in critical thinking, conceptual development and experiential learning is also provided. This program features the study of art at each grade level with attention to aesthetics, art history, and criticism.


Roosevelt High School, East Los Angeles

This center offers training for teams at the 10th - 12th grade levels.The program also incorporates a 9-12 school within a school a strategic literacy course, technology intergration. Other areas of specialization include the integration of science into a humanities curriculum, ESL, film studies, and on-line communications.
