Unit Objectives:
- Distinguish between satire, sarcasm, and irony through cartoons in daily paper
- Analyze the use of satire in art and literature as a social comment
- Create written and visual texts that bring attention to a social concern
Unit Culminating Assessment:
- Students will write an essay examining a cartoon, another piece of art, or a piece of literature analyzing the satire in the piece of work. Students will write a piece of literature or create a work of art examining a social concern in a satiric manner.
Time Allotment: 5 sixty minute periods, plus 3 weeks of novel reading
