ON JUNE 8, voters in Los Angeles will choose the next Los Angeles Unified School District Board member for District 1. Incumbent Barbara Boudreaux and education activist Genethia Hayes will meet in a run-off election, since neither of them received a majority of the vote last April. On May 26, the candidates met for a debate at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles.

The winner of this race will join new board members Caprice Young (District 3), Mike Lansing (District 7) and veteran board members David Tokofsky (District 5) Victoria Castro (District 2), Julie Korenstein (District 6), and Valerie Fields (District 4).
