Family CareCommunity Workforce Development
Urban Education Partnership has hired and trained more than 30 community-based promoters because it believes a strong economic benefit results from employing local residents beyond the credibility that such lay educators have with their neighbors.
Health promoters also develop marketable job skills and ultimately build their careers through the program, helping to develop social capital in the community. For example, through a partnership with the UCLA School of Dentistry, health promoters have completed oral health promotion training about hygiene, diet, and oral diseases, and have been certified as trainers for the Train-the-Trainer Program.
They also now serve as a community resource in key health programs sponsored by UCLA's School of Medicine and Nursing projects, UniHealth project, Sun Valley Asthma Prevention-Intervention and Smoking Prevention-Cessation Program, and many others. All promoters continue to sharpen their employment skills through a partnership with Pacoima Workforce.
