CPM is dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of college prep mathematics. CPM offers replacement texts for Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, and Pre-calculus that engage students in investigations that lead to the discovery of traditional college prep concepts. CPM blends investigations, problem solving, applications, and skills in a complete, balanced curriculum that teaches math skills and understanding. Teachers are supported by a bi-monthly newsletter and various ancillary materials and by a mandatory eight-day workshop. Through June, 1998, over 600,000 students in California have taken CPM, and more than 2,000 teachers use the materials in junior high and high school. Schools report increased retention in college prep math courses, somewhat improved scores on multiple-choice skill tests, and significant improvement on written response, word problem assessments. Free sampler packet.
