The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) is responsible for implementing comprehensive laws that address California's solid waste disposal dilemma and lessen the demand upon the State's natural resources. Public education is an important component in changing perceptions about natural resource management, so the CIWMB's Public Education and Program Implementation Branch sponsors comprehensive recycling and waste reduction programs at state facilities and school districts, comprehensive integrated waste management instructional programs targeting K-12 students in schools and other educational institutions; and waste prevention education programs presented through the public and private sectors to reach the general public. In addition, the Branch provides expertise and resources to promote educational programs throughout the Board, assist local governments in reaching solid waste reduction goals, and promote the conservation of natural resources.
