The mission of the National Audubon Society is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and other wildlife, for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity. Audubon furthers this mission primarily through public policy and education, providing curriculum materials to more than 45,000 4th to 6th graders throughout Los Angeles and offering teacher training, classroom outreach, and outdoor education programs in the Ballona Wetlands and the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Area. Audubon is dedicated both to working with students and teachers in areas where limited access to the outdoors and low environmental awareness go hand-in-hand in helping urban youngsters learn to appreciate, understand, and love the natural world.
