Its mission is to maximize the contribution of universities and affiliated institutions in the wise use of the sea's resources through research, education, and advisory services. California Sea Grant offers a directory of academic marine programs in California and a guide to college-level programs in the marine sciences. Another book, compiled by the National Sea Grant College Program, is a marine science career guide targeted to high school students that also has appeal for middle school students, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors. In addition, the program offers one scholarship of $3,000 per year for four years to a qualified high school senior pursuing marine science as a major in college.
