Sponsored locally by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, PLT's 100+ interdisciplinary activities can be used to supplement the curriculum presented in K-12 classrooms, as well as programs offered by youth organizations, museums, and nature centers. Materials focus on the total environment and cover the themes of diversity, interrelationships, systems, structure and scale, and patterns of change. Activities use contructivist learning theory and whole language strategies to reinforce conceptual understanding of environmental topics. Background information, authentic assessment opportunities, and an extensive bibliography are also included. The hands-on, experiential format of the materials are very useful for students learning English to reinforce concepts of science and other content areas. Student pages and a glossary are available in Spanish. For a list of workshop dates or information on how to organize a session, contact the PLT State Coordinator.
