It acts as a steward and guardian of California's earth resources through the promotion of conservation and the wise use of the State's land, energy, and mineral resources. With a team of geologists, engineers, seismologists, and other dedicated professionals, the Department plays a key role in decision-making for public safety, sustainable economic development, land-use planning, and resource management and conservation. For recycling information and membership in our RecyCool Club for students in grades 1-6 call 1-800-RECYCLE. Student will receive a quarterly news magazine and a card on their birthday. When they graduate from the program they are instructed to go into the world and spread the message about recycling. Enclosed is some recycling information. We offer information on abandoned mines by calling 877-STAY OUT. In our California Geology magazine there is a Teacher Feature section. This magazine is printed six times a year.
