The program seeks to reduce isolation among teachers and students, promote science teaching and learning, and increase access to science for under-represented groups. Bridges teams, consisting of a high school, middle school, and elementary school teacher and five high school students, are trained in six hands-on science activities tied to science framework themes. The activities are carried out in the middle and elementary classrooms by the students under the leadership of local district high school students. The program is self-funded through fees for training, participation, and the activity kit.
