For students one of the most pressing issues of their lives is the degree to which they adhere to a larger contemporary youth culture. A codified, symbolic system of commerical imagery is in place make sure commercial affiliation is as customary and attractive as possible. Using the Media Symbols project as a template, students have developed complex visual symbols of their own personal identity in relation to their larger media culture. This Personal Symbols project also touches on artists and movements invested in symbols as they represent deeper meanings of personal existence. |
