Curandera

by Calvin

In the painting "Curandera" the symbols represent many different things. The hovering face with wings and a cross on its right cheek above the curandera, represents a soul. It is the soul of a person who in life the curandera helped many times when it was in need. The smaller green figure that is kneeling down beneath the curandera's hands is a person who really needs of her. Many of the plants and flowers growing throughout the curanderas body represents her knowledge of an unusual way of curing a person who is ill. Lying underground beneath the curandera is mother earth nurturing her and filling her with a lot of knowledge. In the three large hearts within the curanderas body and head are three different images. In the first heart there is the image of a young couple. The second heart has the image of a young kid, the third one has an image of an elderly couple souls. These images are a few of the people who she helped. In the air and throughout the picture there are many diamond shape object representing power being released from spirits to the curandera and from the curandera to the people in need.

Each and every one of the symbols on this painting is very important. They explain were the curandera gets the strength to cure people who are in need. How the curandera might get all of her strength. It also symbolizes how a curandera can help many people and how important a curandera might be. Symbols such as the diamond shapes in the air and throughout the picture, tell you how a curandera gets strength from people who appreciate his or her work. Coming out of the curanderas hands on to the little green man who is kneeling down beneath her hands are little diamond shapes. The diamond shapes are reflecting the curanderas power. Behind the curandera there is a little man with wings flying . It is flying with its heart attached to the second heart.

The many symbols in this painting are important because they express the emotions. It explains the picture without words . Just by looking at it you will notice that the curandera is a lady that is helping the little green man below her. It is so well expressed you can tell the difference between realistic things and non-realistic things.
