Aftermath of Prop. 227

ON JUNE 2, CALIFORNIA VOTERS overwhelmingly approved Proposition 227, mandating an end to bilingual education throughout the state.

But, the battle is far from over. Just hours after unofficial results showed that Proposition 227 had cruised to victory, opponents filed a legal challenge in federal court.

The passage of Proposition 227 has not only thrown California's 20-year bilingual experiment into chaos, but has also mobilized some states to duplicate Proposition 227, while causing others, such as Texas, Florida, New York, and Illinois, to embrace multilingualism.

Take a closer look at Proposition 227's impact nationwide by visiting our Digest of news, analysis, editorials and opinion articles we compiled from the country's leading newspapers.
