Is Gender Equity a Reality?

THE LOS ANGELES EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIP (LAEP) recently teamed up with the Public Education Network to bring the results of the MetLife Gender Equity Survey to the attention of administrators, teachers, parents and students throughout the Los Angeles area. LAEP received a grant from MetLife to develop an action plan for eliminating any forms of gender bias which may exist in our schools.

We encourage the readers of the Learning Exchange to review the Executive Summary of the Metlife Survey as well as the survey's Key Findings.

In November, representatives from education funds nationwide will gather in Washington D.C. to report on the types of interventions needed so that both males and females find school to be an equally motivating and supportive environment.

Tell us what you think. Does gender play a role in education? Are girls treated fairly?
