Rubric for Inclusion of an Article in the Database
Every researcher (yes, thats you!) must find at least two articles for inclusion in the Roosevelt High School Archives Database. Before the article can be added to the database, it must score at least 8 out of 14 points on the following rubric. You must secure the signature of three of your classmates to signifies that they agree the article is interesting enough for our archives. If your article meets the requirements discussed on a particular line, award it the points that are listed at the end of the line. Be sure the article you are recommending is not already in the database! Each article must be accompanied by the key words you think should go with it into the database.
- This article adds new, interesting information about Boyle Heights, Roosevelt High School, or the city of Los Angeles. (2pts)
- The article is well-written with a good bibliography, if appropriate. (Newspaper articles, for example, will not have bibliographies.) (2pts)
- Most students would find this article interesting in and of itself. (3pts)
- This article has good statistics. (1pt)
- This article has good maps. (1pt)
- This article has good photographs or graphics. (1pt)
Sometimes a particularly interesting picture can be added to the database on its own merit, without an article to accompany it.
- The subject of this article is an interesting person who lived in Boyle Heights or attended Roosevelt High School. (2pts)
- The article subject brings new information about specific groups who lived in Boyle Heights even if the article is not written about Boyle Heights residents specifically. (2pts)
- If your article cannot gather enough points but you still think it deserves consideration, you may bring it to the teacher for further consideration.
