The Professional Development School, a joint project of the Los Angeles Educational Partnership (LAEP) with California State University Dominguez Hills and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), enables emergency permit teachers to obtain full state certification in one year in education courses offered at urban public school sites. Over a three-year demonstration period, 75 emergency permit teachers from LAUSDs Manual Arts Cluster in south Los Angeles will be offered classroom-based courses to complete the requirements to acquire a Cross-Cultural and Language Academic Development (C-CLAD) teaching credential from the State of California.
The Professional Development School program will emphasize school-based teacher preparation aligned with current standards and classroom practices with direct feedback from teacher coaches. Novice teachers will observe and work with experienced teachers and be able to take successful practices back to their classrooms immediately.
The school will integrate education reform principles and technology training in its program. New teachers will receive intensive training in using technology effectively in their classrooms and will receive followup support from technology coordinators.
