Fund for Teachers Awards to LAEP Partner Schools

Congratulations to teachers Awarded 2014 Fund For Teachers Grant!
From thousands of applicants across the country, three teachers from our Partner Schools stood out with proposals that will bring relevant knowledge and skills back to their students and school community. Fund For Teachers, a national non profit, awards teachers the chance to pursue summer learning opportunities by enabling them to design their own unique professional development.
Leslie Schippert from Edison Middle School will research Mark Twain’s life and work. Leslie will take part in the National Tom Sawyer Days in Hannibal, MO and the Jumping Frog Jubilee in Calaveras County, CA. She will create units that will enrich and expand her students’ understanding of Twain’s contributions to American Literature.
Lauren Willard and Derek Willard, both from Washington Prep High School will embark on a literary tour of New England. Through their travels, they will enhance American Literature units and support student understanding of the subject with historical context, artifacts and fresh perspectives.
