LAEP Academy Students Enter Workforce

More than 175 students are making the most of their summer after being placed in paid internships through LAEP's School to Career Academies.

"I loved my internship at the Capital Group," said Telma Torres, a recent Academy of Finance graduate. "I had the opportunity to work with brokers, to create spreadsheets and to learn many new skills that I can use in the future. The biggest surprise to me was seeing the importance of teamwork and that I was given responsibility and treated like an equal co-worker."

LAEP directs and coordinates Academies of Finance, Travel and Tourism, Information Technology, and Health Services at seven LAUSD high schools creating small learning communities that combine college qualifying academic courses with technical classes designed to familiarize students with the range of careers within a given industry.
