Principal for a Day 2000 Follow Up Actions

After Principal for a Day 2000, participants continued to show support for LAUSD schools by volunteering, donating and offering other resources. The following are examples of what these individuals are doing to do their part in education:

  • Wally Aguilar, CA Trade & Commerce Agency, is helping in school-to-career activities. He has also given useful information on local resources for the school. He plans to work with a valley high school in business relations.

  • Chris Andrews, International Creative Management (ICM), invited the principal and several students to a basketball game at the Staples Center. He plans to meet with the school on a monthly basis to discuss school issues.

  • Tony Aronoff, Anderson & Kelleher, LLP, provides courthouse field trips and arranges legal professionals to guest speak at the school. He also contributed to the school's discretionary fund.

  • Matt Baer, Brillstein Grey Entertainment, is working on future activities at the school.

  • Jeanne Ballot, The Boeing Company, provides professional development and opportunities to students and supports math and science initiatives. In addition, she donated money, computers, and volunteers for the school.

  • Manny Banchik, Westwood Financial Corporation, visited the school again and donated $500.

  • Patrick K. Beauchamp, Beauchamp Distributing Company, discussed how his company can help with school goals and needs with the principal.

  • Gerard Bocaccio, The Bubble Factory, is a mentor and works on various school activities. He is interested in being involved with a principal's network.

  • Dave Clark, Universal Studios, let two students job shadow at the theme park.

  • Barri Evins, Debra Hill Productions, donated thousands of books with an estimated value of $20,000. She also rewarded troubled students for good behavior.

  • Chris Fenton, William Morris Agency, made Career Day presentations. He also gave hundreds of movie one sheets to the school. He would like to do more Career Days to discuss general occupations in the entertainment business.

  • Manny Figueras, State Senator Alarcon's Office, donated new lights and other items for school improvements within his district.

  • Nike Irvin, Riordan Foundation, donated computer software at a value of $700.

  • Allen K. Jonas, Jonas & Associates, represented real estate career opportunities to fifth grade classes.

  • Ronny Kaufman, Universal Pictures, regularly tutors a fourth grader.

  • Deborah Klein, Barnes, Morris, Klein & Yorn, wants to get parents involved in their children's education.

  • Mel Kohn, Kirsch, Kohn & Bridge, CPAS, has regular contact with the principal. He participated in the school's Open House. He also plans to make class presentations.

  • Walt Krakowiecki, Universal Studios, attended the school's year-end musical program. He donated tickets to the theme park at a value of $200-300 for a school fundraiser. Just recently, he catered a brunch for the school's volunteers at no cost.

  • Andy Licht, Licht & Mueller Film Corporation, spoke to six classes about his career in film on Career Day. He donated a $100 orange tree for the school.

  • Roger Licht, Licht & Licht, a.p.c., is planning future events with the principal.

  • David McIlvain, Major Clients Agency, is interested in testing the idea of a website that would allow students to communicate with professionals about careers and school subjects.

  • Randi Michel, William Morris Agency, placed students as interns at the agency. She also helped find a graduation keynote speaker and hosted "Take Your Daughter to Work Day."

  • Donald Miod, Miod & Company, LLP, CPAS, calls regularly to stay in touch with the school. He donated nine room chairs, one couch and one computer at an estimated value of $3,200. He will donate a laser printer, as well.

  • Patrick J. Modugno, Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, works with the Project Grad Summer Institute, a program for San Fernando High School students to prepare them for tenth grade math and laboratory science. He also works with Secret Garden.

  • Eleanor Ramirez, St. Vincent Medical Center, had a local elementary school visit the center on a field trip. She is also thinking of the center being a volunteer site for high school volunteers.

  • Noelia Rodriguez, LA Convention 2000, adopted the school as the official school of the convention. Students participated in a press conference. She donated T-shirts commemorating the convention to the school.
  • Judith Rothman, Education & Training Consultant, is arranging a student project and will contribute books to the school library.

  • Joe Shestack, Artisan Entertainment, is arranging employees from his office to volunteer at the school.

  • Tony Thomas, Cormier Chevrolet, has regular communication with the students through online networking. He donated 125 computers, surge protectors and printers. He funded school trips and held essay contests. He provided school visits to the company. In addition, he found other companies to donate to the school.

  • Michael Wimer, Creative Artists Agency, focuses on school repairs, fundraising through school auctions, PTA involvement, and the school yearbook. He has financially invested about $5,000.
