Updated 5:00 p.m. PDT Stage is Set for "Principal for a Day" 2000 The stage is set for some of Hollywood's leading executives, agents, producers, actors, writers and directors to take on a challenging new role as "Principal for a Day" in a Los Angeles public school on Thursday March 30. Members of the entertainment industry will join with other Los Angeles business, education and community leaders in a "hands-on" experience designed to provide a lesson in what public schools are really like and encourage support for public education. Working with real school principals, participants will have the opportunity to try out some of the daily tasks of running a school such as taking attendance, teaching a class, supervising lunch or taking part in faculty meetings. They'll also get the opportunity to meet with teachers, administrators, students and parents to talk with them about their school. Nearly 300 community members are planning to serve as a "Principal for a Day" in Los Angeles. A sample list of participating entertainment, business and community leaders includes Richard Lovett, President & Chairman, Creative Artists Agency; Duncan Clark, President, Columbia Tristar Films, Sony Pictures Entertainment; Alejandro Mayorkas, United States Attorney; James Hahn, Los Angeles City Attorney, Ezunial Burts, President, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and many others. Principal for a Day 2000 is a project of the Entertainment Industry Foundation in collaboration with the Los Angeles Educational Partnership and the Los Angeles Unified School District. The event aims to generate a new spirit of involvement in public schools and to engage the talent and resources of the Los Angeles community in support of quality public education.
