246 LAUSD Teachers Receive National Board Certification

Two hundred forty six teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) were among the more than 4,700 teachers nationwide who in 2000 received a certification of "best practices" from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

They join the 168 already certified teachers, bringing the total in LAUSD to 410-which is more than the number of National Board certified teachers in 45 states. The rigorous certification process involves more than 200 hours of work in which teachers document their skills and ability to work with students over one year, culminating with a four-hour essay exam.
